Season 4 of Elation Begins!

When your work program is telling you it’s boat time…

After a fantastic time back in Canada catching up with friends and family, working, camping, and even a little skiing, I am happy to say, that we are now on our way to what will be our biggest year on the boat.

The boys and I successfully managed to survive a red eye flight return to the Caribbean. Fortunately, all of our large, ridiculously heavy duffels made it with us as well.

We are now enjoying a brief pit stop in Barbados before hopping over to Trinidad to join Jay at the boat.  It’s been a lovely reprieve from the cold -20 degrees that we left to a balmy, but breezy 30 degrees.  We spent the entire day at the beach while the boys built numerous sand castles desperately trying to deter the ever rising tide.  Needless to say, they all met an untimely end.  Hopefully, the cellphone that I had in my hand while I was lazily lying on the beach when a rogue wave splashed over me, will not be another casualty.  To be determined…

We fly out late tomorrow night to join Jay for one night on the hard before we splash Elation in the water on the 5th of December and then we will start slowly picking our way up to Martinique for Christmas.

So, what are we looking forward to this year?  So much!

If all goes according to plan, we will continue our push West visiting the ABC’s, Colombia, an epic 3 week land trip to Peru, San Blas islands, Panama, canal crossing, The Galapagos, and a Pacific ocean crossing to explore the isolated islands and atolls of French Polynesia.

I have made a personal commitment to try and keep up with a weekly blog this year both for friends and family, but also for our memories as we go.

For now, enjoy the substantial photo dump from our Canadian detour.

Maintenance/Upgrades: Jay has been busy – replaced coolant fan on Quattro invertors, sanded the keel, new anodes, serviced the prop and sail drive, bow thruster service, cleaned all the bilges, new anti foul, polished the hull, bought so many extra bits in the last week for me to bring to him, lots of logistics about Martinique upgrades to be done early in the new year.

More to come…

Happy Splash Day! I hope Jay remembered to put in the transom bung.

    • I did, and even managed to get all the through hulls nice and water tight. 🙂 Ask me about the start battery though… 🙁
